Audio inputs

An Audio input brings in sound alone, from any Core Audio device — a USB microphone, an audio interface, a loopback device — with no picture. It gets its own card and its own strip in the audio mixer, like any other input.

Add one

Press Add Input…, choose Audio, and pick an Input device from what macOS sees. Each device shows how many input channels it has.

Mono or stereo, and which channels

Choose Channels: Mono, a single channel, or Stereo pair, two channels together. Source channels picks which of the device’s channels to use — useful for an interface with more inputs than you are using at once.

Sample rate

Request preferred sample rate asks the device to run at a rate you set, rather than whatever it is already running at. Leave it off unless you have a reason to change it.

Routing

Like any input with its own strip, it has Gain, Mute, Follow Program, and the M / A / B buttons that route it to the mix buses.

Pairing it with a picture

A camera or a Blackmagic input carries no sound of its own, and can use an Audio input’s sound instead of its own — see pairing an input’s sound on the Camera inputs page.
