Recovering your Show

The Last Show

InterDirector keeps a copy of what you are working on, updated as you go — a few seconds after you pause editing, and at least every 20 seconds even if you do not. It is kept after a clean quit as well as after a crash, so “give me back what I had” works the same way either time.

The next time InterDirector starts, the startup window offers Load Last Auto-Save alongside Start Fresh and Open Existing Show…, if there is one to recover.

Opening a damaged Show

InterDirector is deliberately more forgiving opening a Show than saving one: a Show that breaks a rule still opens, with the smallest change that fixes it, rather than being refused. A value out of range is brought back into range; an identifier used twice is given a fresh one on the second use; a device or package InterDirector cannot find is kept, marked unavailable, so the source stays visible and can be pointed at the right thing again. Only something that cannot mean anything at all — a layer naming a source that no longer exists, an empty playlist — is removed.

Nothing is written back to the file until you save. If it opened with any changes, or with something still unfinished, you are told once, in a window headed either “This Show needed repairs to open” or “Some settings are not finished”, listing exactly what changed and what is left, under Changed while opening and Still to finish.

Relinking a missing file

A Show is checked as it opens, and anything it cannot reach — a media file, an image, an overlay package — is offered for relinking. Finding one missing file reconnects its whole folder, so moving a project to a new drive takes one click, not one per file.
