Your first Show
A Show is the file InterDirector saves: your inputs, your overlays, your audio routing and your output settings, all in one place. This page assumes you have InterDirector open on a new, empty Show — see Install InterDirector if you have not started one yet.
Add an input
Press Add Input… and choose the kind of source you have. A camera or a capture device is usually the simplest place to start: pick Camera, choose the device, and it appears as a card.
Every input becomes a card, whatever kind it is. That card is how you switch it, whether it is a camera, an NDI source, a media file or an overlay. See what InterDirector can bring in for the full list.
Preview and Program
Two monitors sit at the centre of the window: Preview, what is coming up, and Program, what is live. Click an input’s card to send it to Preview. When you are ready, press Cut to take it straight to Program, or one of the Fade buttons to cross-fade instead.
Nothing goes live until you cut or fade it to Program. Loading a card into Preview never affects what is on air.
Framing and colour
Each input has its own framing (size, position, crop and rotation) and colour correction (white balance, exposure, three-way grading), reached from its card. If that source is the one on Program, adjusting it changes what is on air, not just the editor’s preview: colour updates live, as fast as you move the sliders; framing’s own editor follows your drag as you make it, and Program itself updates the moment you let go of a slider or a drag. To adjust a source without it showing, do it while that source is in Preview rather than on Program. See Framing a source and Colour correction and grading for the full set of controls.
Save your Show
File → Save writes a .interdirector file with everything in it. InterDirector also keeps its own autosave, and
offers to recover it if the application quits unexpectedly; see Install InterDirector for what the
startup window offers.
