Camera inputs

Add one

Press Add Input…, choose Camera, and pick a Video device from what macOS sees — a built-in camera, a USB webcam, or a capture device that appears as one, such as a Cam Link.

Format

Video format is set to Automatic by default, which lets the device choose. Pick a specific format from the list if you need a particular resolution or frame rate instead.

Sound

A camera captured this way carries no audio of its own — video and audio come from your Mac as two separate things, even when they are physically the same USB cable. Give it sound by pairing it with another input.

Pairing an input’s sound

Any input can, on its Audio tab, use another input’s sound instead of its own. This is how a camera gets sound: add an Audio input for your microphone (see Audio inputs), then on the camera’s Audio tab, set Audio source to that microphone’s name instead of None.

A pairing replaces, it never mixes: the camera is heard only through the microphone it is paired with, never both at once, and the microphone’s own mixer strip, routing and gain are unaffected by the pairing. None gives the camera no mixer strip of its own at all.

This is the same mechanism Blackmagic inputs need for sound today, since they do not carry embedded audio either.
